Grand-daughter struggles as she took on the caregiving role for her grandmother
The physical and emotional task of caring for her elderly grandmother can have no end in sight. Yet even in the most demanding and challenging times in her caregiving journey, Mdm Zarinah would always prioritise her family’s well-beings over hers.
Life after becoming a full-time caregiver for her grandma with dementia hasn’t been easy, especially so without an income.
“I have to bring grandma to the toilet, bathe her. I am tired, but I have to take care of her as my parents are old”, says the 42-year-old. Mdm Zarinah, the mother of 2, quit her job as a coffeeshop assistant half a year ago due to her caregiving duties. Her family of 5 is relying on her husband’s sole income of $1,500 as a delivery driver to make ends meet. Mdm Zarinah has two sons, 21 and 14. Her elder son is graduating from his ITE course in April 2020 and due to be enlisted for National Service afterwhich, while her younger son is in secondary school.
Financial Breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,000 ($400 x 5 months) to defray Mdm Zarinah’s expenses for her grandma’s needs, as well as the family’s groceries. We hope that alleviating outstanding financial burdens will bring some respite for Mdm Zarinah, and encourage her to persevere in this journey.Â
*Mdm Zarinah’s social assistance has ended in March 2020, and is currently being renewed.
