A cause for celebration.

As we look forward to Deepavali, there are those among us who are unable to join in the festivities — from our fellow Singaporeans who fall through the cracks to the migrant workers who have helped to build this country. Let’s give them a reason to celebrate in dignity and not in solitude.

Lights for Hope 2020 aims to provide for 22 families, to let them celebrate and know that they are not alone and forgotten. The fund will provide for 62 adults and 22 children to ease their burdens and give them hope.

This year, we see many families struggling through really tough circumstances. Festivities feel more sombre as uncertainties loom ahead.  But we should try to celebrate our little victories and enjoy the company of our families, no matter how small. Also,  let us not forget the ones who need us most – the silent and the helpless.

Families like Mr David’s have always depended on each other’s warmth and smiles amidst their sadness and struggles. Despite being unable to work due to his condition, his role as a father to four children has kept his spirit strong. His family is close-knit. “I wish only to see the success of my children, so they may never have to suffer the same way I do,” he laments.

Mr David recalled how they used to visit relatives during Deepavali wearing new clothes. This year however things are not looking good. But he still hopes that they will be able to celebrate with dignity and remember that dark days do not last. Help Mr David keep his hopes up and help this loving family hold on to hope for a better future.

Ellie is a single mother. Her adopted son is her source of joy and hope. This Deepavali, Ellie wishes to see him enjoy himself in spite of the uncertainties. Ellie underwent surgery for her toes due to diabetes, and this has affected her chances at finding employment. Ellie struggles to provide for her son’s education and living expenses but hopes to still give her very best for him.
