Ray of Hope is raising $2,520 ($630 x 4 months) to help William defray his meal expenses. Your donations will give hope to William as he focuses on recovery! 

William is a 50-year-old Singaporean staying in a one-room rental flat. For almost 18 years, he has been struggling with schizophrenia without much family support. He is also reliant on the $500 social assistance every month, but the sum barely covers his daily needs. Despite his own health issues, William is the main caregiver of his 63-year-old co-tenant who relies on William for assistance with his activities of daily living.

“My doctor certified me unfit for work until 31 December 2022, and I am worried about my finances when I cannot work. I want to work to be able to support myself.” William told our caseworkers.

When asked what he looks forward to in the new year, William shared that he is excited to meet his elderly parents. Chinese New Year is the only opportunity that he gets to meet them as they live on their own. William’s two younger sisters reside overseas with their families and he is not in regular contact with them.

“I miss my family and even if it’s just a meal, I am happy and contented. It has been lonely trying to manage on my own.”

*William is receiving social assistance and it ends in February 2022.
