COVID-19 Migrant Support Coalition (CMSC), Timbre Group, and Singaporean Malay Celebrity Awi Rafael (NewSantara Asia) are collaborating to organise a “WeAllEat” initiative this April.
On this special and important day, our migrant friends usually break fast with their family but due to COVID-19, many of them have been away from home for a long time. We would like to continue to be there for and with them as we break fast together and treat them to a special meal from our local hawkers. These local hawkers are still trying to recuperate their losses by the waves of disruptions brought about by COVID-19, ranging from the many restrictions imposed to complete closures of their stalls. By bulk ordering from them, we can provide them with some financial support and also share the joy of our local food together with our brothers as they break fast.
Intended outcomes
For Timbre group’s hawkers:
-
Tangible economic support through bulk ordering as hawkers are still trying to recuperate their losses
-
Many hawkers share that they love cooking and it is their passion. These orders would hopefully create opportunity for the hawkers to stay engaged in purposeful activity
For the migrant brothers:
-
We hope to strengthen the bonds between our community and our migrant brothers through sharing meals we love together. We would as love to share our hawker culture and to let them taste food items they may not have tried before
-
We hope to be there with our brothers as they break fast together
How will the funds be used?Â
The proceeds of this fundraiser will be received by Ray of Hope to be paid out for CMSC’s x Timbre+’s ground engagement. For the avoidance of doubt, no money is given to any of our volunteers or the migrant worker groups that we may be engaged with for any personal purposes.
About Covid19 Migrant Support Coalition
Established on 6 April 2020, the COVID-19 Migrant Support Coalition (CMSC) is a fully volunteer-run group-up initiative that started as a collaborative effort between a few smaller migrant workers supporting groups, together with other like-minded volunteers, to meet the needs of our migrant friends affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, we also actively engage their dorm operators and employers, the relevant Ministries as well as the wider public, so that the issues can be dealt with through a multi-sector perspective. The effort is a highly collective one, and we believe that everyone has a part to play.
