Cooking Up A Storm
In 2019, Glyph launched its inaugural Glyph Culinary Bootcamp, providing kids and teens with an affordable, quality curriculum to pick up basic kitchen skills and to cultivate independence. It was a huge hit amongst the families, since culinary classes are typically a lot more expensive and less accessible to them.
Under the guidance of experienced professional chefs, the Glyph Culinary Bootcamp Programme allows children to explore a range of flavours and textures while being equipped with kitchen basics such as food hygiene, ingredient preparation, kitchen safety, cooking techniques and food presentation. Furthermore, the programme also emphasises character values such as teamwork and perseverance. These lifelong skills and values will ensure our children grow to live as independent, well-rounded, and healthy adults.
Moving into 2020, kids and parents alike were full of anticipation for the second round of Culinary Bootcamp to begin. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the class had to be postponed indefinitely. As the situation stabilised and restrictions eased, we were able to relaunch discussions about the programme. However, despite efforts to push for the programme launch, the sustainability of the programme is still left in uncertainty, as we have been unable to secure a sponsorship to continue the programme. Having already made these families wait for a year, Glyph cannot afford to further postpone the programme.
Help Us Keep Their Culinary Dream Alive
It is imperative that even with the COVID-19 situation, the holistic development of kids remains uncompromised. Just as schools are doing their best to continue classes with minimal disruption, Glyph also aims to continue providing its non-academic programmes, especially as many kids that we work with come from vulnerable backgrounds. Thus, we would be seeking support to fund our Glyph Culinary Bootcamp 2021 to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the programme.
Our goal of SGD 30,000 will be able to run 12 sessions of the culinary class for 60 students:
– $18000 will go towards programme management fees
– $12000 will go towards culinary school fees
It will cost $500 per beneficiary to attend the programme, with a minimum number of 50 beneficiaries in order to proceed. If the minimum enrolment isn’t met for the course to proceed, all donations to the campaign will be refunded to the donors.
About Glyph
Glyph is changing the way kids learn & play through a well-established framework and a socially connected community, where children are able to develop socially, emotionally and intellectually. By building learning journeys through people, classrooms & field trips, Glyph creates the most unique, cost-effective and fun-learning experience on the market. At Glyph, we encourage children to explore in and outside the classroom so they can gain the confidence and skills they need to thrive in today’s highly competitive, globalized world.
Thus far, we have touched the lives of over 1700 kids, many from less privileged backgrounds, and we are not stopping there. We are also very fortunate to be endorsed and even supported by Ministers like Desmond Lee, Grace Fu, Low Yen Ling, and Sam Tan, as well as our exchange with President Halimah Yacob, where we were one of the finalists for the President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Awards 2019.
