Ray of Hope is raising $1,800 ($450 x 4 months) to support Faruk and his family.

Faruk is a migrant worker from Bangladesh. Between 2008 to 2017, Faruk worked for five different companies in Singapore: in some cases, the companies closed and, in others, his contract expired. By 2017, he had repaid all the bank loans that were taken to pay for agent fees, including the most recent loan of S$3,500, and was remitting most of his monthly salary of S$1,600 home.

In 2019, Faruk returned to Singapore. He was ten months into the job, when an accident occurred.

The Accident

On 17th March 2020, Faruk fell 3 meters off a ladder while repairing an air conditioning unit. He sustained multiple injuries: the fingers on his left hand were fractured, there were injuries to his left knee, back and left shoulder. Until today, Faruk still suffers pains in the back of his head and his lower back.

Faruk had fully repaid his previous bank loans while he was working. However, his family has since incurred new debts, as Faruk has not been able to send money home for over a year. His employer has also stopped paying for his daily meals.

Faruk’s widowed mother suffers from diabetes, and she lives together with his wife and their three school-going children (4, 8 and 14) in Bangladesh. Faruk worries about his family as they are totally dependent on his income.
