The Struggle
A rainy day in May had turned out to be an unexpectedly unlucky day for Shereen when she slipped and fell while she was with her friends. The 26-year-old was hospitalised from 10-26 May, before being discharged to home. Since her fall, the single mum has been unable to work due to her temporary immobility.
Help Needed – Give Hope
Shereen was recently divorced from her ex-husband and is taking care of their two children, who are 4 and 2 years old. She was working as a brand ambassador before her fall, bringing home a bit more than $1,000 each month. Since her fall, Shereen has been struggling with moving around and is unable to work, but she is currently undergoing weekly physiotherapy sessions at home.
Shereen’s mum was working as a cleaner and was able to help support the family before Shereen was injured. However, she cannot continue working as Shereen is recuperating. Since then, Shereen’s mum has been shouldering the caregiving duties of her mother and Shereen’s kids.
With the both of them being unable to work until Shereen fully recovers, the family is surviving only with the help of friends and neighbours, while awaiting the renewal of their SSO assistance. The family is also in need of a new washing machine as their old machine which has served them for more than 10 years have now broken down.
Financial Breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,030 for the family while Shereen focuses on getting well:
- Washing machine (one-time): $280
- Food & sundry (monthly): $350 x 5 months
*Shereen is currently not receiving any assistance from SSO as it has ended in May 2019, and it is in the process of being renewed.
