Ray of Hope is raising $1,940 ($485 x 4 months) to support Sazzad and his family.

Sazzad lived with his parents, siblings and their families in Bangladesh. In June 2016, Sazzad took a bank loan of S$12.8K (8 lakhs) to enable him to work in Singapore. He was a general worker in a construction company for about a year, then returned home.

Sazzad returned to Singapore in August 2019 but, after just four months, the company that employed him folded. He was transferred to a sub-contract company and had been working for a year, when an accident occurred.

The Accident

On 19th October 2020, Sazzad was dismantling a metal formwork when it dropped onto his right foot. His first surgery took place one day after the accident. Sazzad was plagued with problems after the procedure. A change of doctors later revealed that Sazzad’s fractured bones were not properly joined. On 20th September 2021, he underwent another surgery and is currently recuperating. He is on medical leave until his next hospital review on 11th November 2021.

Earning an average salary of S$1,000 prior to the accident, Sazzad would remit half of his earnings home every month. Since his injury, he can no longer afford to pay his rent or to send money home. The 24 year old is very worried about his family: his mother suffered two strokes due to heart issues, two brothers have tried (unsuccessfully) to find employment, and a school-going younger sister.
