“After my two brothers passed on, it has been just me and my mother. We only have each other now,”
Growing up, Rose saw the love and effort her mother put into caring for her two late brothers, Prabhudeva and Jassavan. Prabhudeva suffered from cerebral palsy, epilepsy and acute bronchitis while Jassavan suffered from epilepsy. Her two brothers subsequently passed on due to their health complications in 2003 and 2002 at the age of 8 and 2 respectively.
Coming from a humble background, Rose and her mother were unable to afford a proper gravestone after the burial. Now, the graves are hardly visible due to the trees and overgrown grass surrounding it.
Ray of Hope is fundraising $7,704 to provide a proper gravestone for the late Prabhudeva and Jassavan. The amount raised will cover the following expenses:
- Two gravestones: $7,000
- Cutting of trees: $200
- Service charge: $504
Rose lives together with her 54-year-old mother in a one-room rental flat. Rose works as a part-time door host while her mother works as a full-time cashier. Their combined income is only enough to cover their everyday expenses while trying to clear their outstanding bills. While Rose was still in school previously, her mother was the main caregiver to her and her two late brothers. She shared with our case worker that her father was mostly absent in her growing years before he passed on in 2008. While trying to support her three children, Rose’s mother had accumulated a few debts since.

Recently, Rose went to visit her brother’s grave and was surprised when the graves were hardly visible due to the trees and overgrown grass surrounding it. Rose and her mother have since been trying to save up money to provide a proper gravestone for her late brothers but have been finding it challenging to even manage their day-to-day expenses.
