Ray of Hope is raising $9,600 ($800 x 12 months) for the loss of income for Rose during her treatment. The funds will help her on the journey towards recovery!
Rosalie Marchito Candoleza (Rose), 46, is from a rural town in Iloilo province in The Philippines. In 2009, she came to Singapore to work as a domestic helper and has been with the same employer throughout. On her monthly salary of $800, Rose has been supporting her elderly mother and 17 year-old adopted daughter. Rose is separated from her husband.
In March 2022, Rose experienced gastric and abdominal pain. She was referred to the hospital for a CT-Scan, which revealed a 14cm ovarian cyst that required urgent surgery. Rose underwent a total Hysterectomy Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy the following week.
Rose was subsequently diagnosed with Stage 1C3 Adult Granulosa Cancer. The oncologist recommended 6 cycles of chemotherapy, with paclitaxel plus carboplatin.
The total cost of investigation, scans and surgery amounts to nearly $25,000. Rose’s health insurance plan only covers up to $15,000 and the payout for their claim is still pending. As a non-Singaporean, Rose is ineligible for medical subsidies for chemotherapy treatment in Singapore, which will cost between $15,000 to $20,000.
Rose will return to The Philippines on 1st August to start her chemotherapy and Ray of Hope is working closely with her employer to support her while she is being treated. Her employers have gone out of their way to raise funds for her offline on their own. The money raised by them will be used for Rose’s medical needs and for her mother, who was recently hospitalised for pneumonia and swollen legs.
