In 2004, Rachel was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease where her body’s immune system attacks her tissues and organs. The 44-year-old has been managing things on her own with little to no support from her family. Due to her medical condition, Rachel is unable to seek employment to support herself. She is now reliant on the $550 social assistance given every month. 

Ray of Hope would like to raise $1,800 ($300 x 6 months) to help Rachel defray her daily necessities such as groceries and adult diapers. 

For more than a decade, Rachel has stayed in a one-room rental flat, constricted in the small space she calls home. Due to her weak limbs, she is mostly confined to her house and rarely goes out except for medical appointments. After two hip replacement surgeries, she is unable to walk long distances and travels around in a wheelchair. The heavy dosage of her medications and steroids has also made her prone to dizziness and drowsiness.

“I envy those who are able to go to work and be financially independent. I want to work but my health condition hinders me from doing so.” Rachel told our case workers. 

Rachel is relying on her social assistance of $550 per month to help her tide through but the amount is insufficient for her daily needs, including her diapers and underpads.
