50-year-old Qian Jian came to Singapore in 2010, in hopes of improving the lives of his family back home in Shanghai. With his salary of $1,800 as a Forklift Operator, Qian Jian was able to support his family consisting of his two elderly parents, his wife, and a son who is currently searching for employment. For the past 10 years, he has been working tirelessly for 15 to 16 hours per day to support his loved ones back home.
However, things took a turn when Qian Jian met with a motorbike accident on the 3rd of March 2020. He suffered from a broken right thigh and calf bones as well as a cracked pelvis. The doctors had to insert a steel plate to support his right leg and replace his calf bones with another steel plate. A part of his hip bone was cut and used to make up for the calf bone as well. His liver was ruptured and there was a slight crack in his left heel. Qian Jian’s employer has forked out about $80,000 for his procedures, and he took on loans from his friends to pay for the remaining fees of $11,000+. In addition, Qian Jian has to attend physiotherapy for his recovery.
Every month, Qian Jian remits the bulk of his salary and only spends a small amount for his monthly expenses here. Hence, Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,400 ($600 x 4 months) for Qian Jian’s living expenses so that he can continue sending some money back home to his family and pay for his outstanding debt.
*Qian Jian is not receiving any public assistance as he is a non Singaporean.
