Mr Tan, 56 years old, is a father of three children, aged 20, 17 and 13 respectively. His two younger children are still attending school while his older daughter is unemployed. When the caseworkers met Mr Tan, he shared that he has been battling with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs.

To support his family, Mr Tan was previously employed as a taxi driver. However, he had to step down from his job as he accumulated numerous fines while working. Since his retrenchment, the resilient father has been seeking new employment to continue supporting his family. Recently, Mr Tan got accepted to work as a forklift driver. However, he does not have the money to travel to and from work and the salary does not come in immediately to solve his family’s needs and his fines. Hence, he had to reject the offer.

Mr Tan shared that he was open to the idea of working as a food delivery rider as the earnings can be immediate to help him tide through this difficult period. Mr Tan is determined to continue supporting his children but he does not have the resources to do so.

Hence, Ray of Hope wants to raise $2,272 to support Mr Tan while he picks himself up with the following expenses:

• Ebike and Safety Device: $1,000
• Food Delivery Company Gear: $72
• His Family’s Living Expenses: $1,200 ($400 x 3 months)

*Mr Tan is not receiving social assistance.
