Ray of Hope is raising $3,600 ($300 x 12 months) to help Mr Tan with meals expenses for a year.

Mr Tan, 69, lives with his wife and two adult daughters. Although they all live under the same roof, his relationship with them is estranged.

In 2006, Mr Tan was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) – a neuromuscular autoimmune disease that affects breathing and leads to weakness of the arms and legs. MG affects the body’s voluntary muscles, especially those which control the eyes, mouth, throat and limbs. Mr Tan is also on long-term medication for high blood pressure and diabetes. He is incontinent and uses adult diapers.

Since his CPF account was depleted in 2019, Mr Tan has had trouble meeting his basic needs. He is permanently unfit for employment and had relied on his daughters’ monthly contribution of $200 to get by. His children are unwilling to increase their monthly support.

Mr Tan has tried seeking financial help from other social service agencies over the years. Unfortunately, his applications were rejected due to the family’s combined income.
