“I can’t even give my 100% at work as my mind is always worried about my family at home,” shared Mr Ridhwan.

33-year-old Mr Ridhwan works as a mechanic to support his wife and four young children. The family was very excited to move into their own BTO flat after staying in a rental flat for years. Unfortunately things took a bad turn when his wife had complications from pregnancy and suffered from postnatal depression. He took unpaid leave for 2 months to take care of his family and as a result, he used up all of his savings.

Help tide his family over this difficult period so that they can get back on their feet. Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,775 ($555 x 5 months) to help Mr Ridhwan with his children’s milk and diapers.

As a mechanic, Mr Ridwan was bringing home close to $2,400 previously, but only brings home about $1,900 now after a harsh pay cut following the reduced hours he needs to take to help care for his children. Mr Ridhwan’s wife is unable to work to supplement her husband’s sole income due to her caregiving duties.

Caring for four young children is not an easy task, especially when Mr Ridhwan is away for work. Mr Ridhwan’s wife suffers from postnatal depression after her last pregnancy. This has taken a toll in her physical and mental well-being as she has to care for the children alone most of the time. During the first two months of his wife’s pregnancy complications, Mr Ridhwan had to take two months of unpaid leave to care for the family while his wife recovers. Due to the loss of income during those two months, the couple has incurred a huge sum of credit card debt and is struggling to clear them.  

The family of six is in the process of moving into their BTO and was informed by HDB to vacate their rental flat by December 2021. As Mr Ridhwan has recently secured a renovation loan, he hopes to move into their new home soon.
