32-year-old Miah Milton was supporting his family of 7 in Bangladesh financially. His father suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart issues which require medical follow-ups once a month. His older brother takes up ad-hoc jobs earning only approximately $5 a day. The family was heavily reliant on Miah Milton for their everyday expenses.
On 27 August 2020, Miah Milton was unloading heavy electrical wires from a lorry when he started experiencing severe back pain. Upon visiting the hospital, he was diagnosed with Moderate Spinal Stenosis, a condition which causes pressure in his spinal cord and nerves. The doctor has recommended that he undergo surgery to correct his spine. However, he was unable to go for surgery as his employer refused to give a Letter of Guarantee to the hospital.
As Miah Milton is unable to do any heavy lifting, it affects his daily living and his employment situation. His employer eventually terminated his contract in July 2021. He is currently unemployed and needs help with his own and his family’s living expenses.
