Ray of Hope is raising $2,160 ($360 x 6 months) to help the family of 8 with their groceries and children’s expenses.
Mdm Ramnah, 44, lives with her husband and 6 children from her previous marriage in a 2-room rental flat. Her children are 21, 19, 18, 16, 10 and 8. 5 of these children are in school. She has two other children from the same marriage who do not stay with her.
Mdm Ramnah’s spouse works as a handyman and earns approximately $1,300 a month. With so many mouths to feed, the family struggles to get by even with the current level of financial assistance that they receive. Although Mdm Ramnah gets a $600 maintenance fee from her ex-husband, the payments are irregular and often delayed, which makes it difficult for her to plan the family’s finances.
In August 2019, Mdm Ramnah’s 19 year-old son was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. He goes for follow-up visits every three months for his condition and will have twice-a-month therapy sessions from July. It is hoped that the sessions will help the teenager to manage his condition better.
Mdm Ramnah spends most of her time taking care of her younger, school-going children, while her husband works hard to support the family. However, she hopes to seek part-time employment to supplement the family’s income, while her children are in school.
*Mdm Ramnah’s social assistance ends in July 2022. She will be renewing her assistance.
