Mdm Lin is a mother of two children aged 15 and 12. The 50-year-old had resigned from her previous employment since her eldest son was born and was relying on her husband financially. However, she found herself having to endure his outbursts and temper tantrums which grew stronger and more frequent over the years. Her husband also mostly ignored their sons except when he was venting his temper. He has also been in a relationship with another woman since early 2018.

A large part of Mdm Lin’s time each day is spent managing her youngest son who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and very poor emotional regulation. He was diagnosed when he was 7 years old. Mdm Lin herself suffers from a congenital heart condition, chronic liver disease, severe obstructive sleep apnea and diabetes. Her eldest son was diagnosed with youth emotional disorder (anxiety/depression) when he was 12 years old and dysgraphia when he was 14 years old.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was almost 3 weeks of ferocious tantrums by her husband. The children had school and the younger son was preparing for his PSLE. Mdm Lin could not allow her sons to endure anymore of their father’s angry outbursts nor could she endure anymore herself. She and her sons fled the house and have been living separately from her husband since. She didn’t receive any maintenance for over 6.5 months until a court order and after receiving the court ordered sum just once, she has only received one-sixth of the amount this month.

Despite the emotional toll, Mdm Lin is doing her best to remain strong and manage things by herself. Recently, she registered her interest in a couple of skillsfuture courses, in the hopes of upgrading herself for better employment opportunities. She also hopes to gain financial stability so that she can pay back her sister and friends, and purchase a flat for herself and her children after her marriage is dissolved. However, she understands that the process would take time, largely due to her husband’s unwillingness to co-operate.

Ray of Hope wishes to raise $15,000 to help Mdm Lin with her legal fees. The amount quoted is an estimated amount and may vary in accordance to the complication of the case. The single mum is trying her best to pick herself up and work on straightening her finances.
