Ray of Hope is raising $2,400 ($480 x 5 months) to help Lisa with her groceries.

38-year-old Mdm Lisa is a single mother with four children aged 19, 18, 15 and 14. Her eldest son is currently in National Service and her three other children are still in school. Her second daughter did not qualify for the dentistry course at the ITE and hopes to appeal for admission to the current intake. Mdm Lisa’s nephew also lives with the family and recently completed NS. He works part-time as a delivery rider. The family of 6 lives in a two-room rental flat.

All four children are from Mdm Lisa’s first marriage, which ended in divorce in 2011. She subsequently remarried, but divorced her second husband in 2019. Both marriages were fraught with episodes of physical abuse and mistreatment by her then-husbands. The men’s aggression often put Mdm Lisa and her children in danger. To protect her children and keep herself safe, she filed for divorce.

Since her last divorce, Mdm Lisa has worked as a Grab delivery rider to support the family. However, she also suffers from acute cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder) and is often in pain. Although she has had surgery to remove the gallbladder, the pain persists. To alleviate the pain, Mdm Lisa takes strong painkillers. However, some side effects from the painkillers include lethargy, heartburn, frequent headaches and uncontrollable shaking. Consequently, Mdm Lisa has not been able to work as many hours as she would like to. At best, she takes home approximately $100 a day doing deliveries over a 12-hour stretch. On average, Mdm Lisa earns approximately $50 to $80 a day and her health condition and irregular income has resulted in the accumulation of arrears.

Her eldest son contributes $100 every month to help with household expenses and the monthly installments for Mdm Lisa’s e-bike. Her nephew also contributes $100 each month.
