Since starting KampungKakis in April 2020, we had observed that many households had suffered tremendously from the impacts of Covid-19 in terms of job loss and cost of living. There is also an increase of elderly who are staying alone, socially isolated and have minimal savings to support themselves. The funds raised here will be used to purchase groceries and daily necessities for a targeted 500 households in Kampungkakis who fall between the gaps in the social service sector.

Mdm Chua is 95 years old and the caregiver for her 66 years old intellectually challenged son. Both of them stay in a one room rental flat. Mdm Chua has multiple chronic health issues due to her frailty and she is permanently wheelchair bound. Her son is fully dependent on her for his activities of daily living. Mdm Chua had stopped working for the past 30 years and she has limited savings. She is financially constrained as she also needs to pay for her rental fee, utilities bill. electricity bill and daily necessities. She is also tapping on her limited savings to purchase her chronic medications and milk supplements.The groceries fund will go a long way to help enhance her and her son’s quality of life to secure better and more nutritious food to support her well-being in the community. There are many seniors in the community with similar household circumstances like Mdm Chua’s.

Your dedication to support them will help these seniors to enjoy a better quality of life in the long term and reduce their financial stressors.

KampungKakis is a neighbourhood buddy system aimed at supporting the elderly and disadvantaged families, by connecting resident volunteers with their neighbours-in-need based on proximity, assistance type and spoken language.
