Cerebral palsy is a lifelong condition that involves constant care. Jane felt lost and confused when her son was first diagnosed with cerebral palsy. However, giving up was never an option as she wants to provide the best for her son. Jane was working in an office job until recently when her contract ended. 

Ray of Hope would like to raise $3,200 ($800 x 4 months) to help Jane’s family with their groceries expenses while she is seeking employment. We hope that alleviating the family’s financial burdens will bring some respite for Jane, and encourage her family to persevere in this journey.

Jane is a mother to six children. Her youngest son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a very young age. Since then, Jane has been through a lot of emotional and mental stress. Together with her helper, they care for her son’s daily activities such as administering medication, feeding and showering. Sharing with our case workers, Jane recounted incidents where members of the public would stare at her son when they were on public transport. 

“And when their stares linger, it’s hard to handle sometimes. Some people might see him as a bad thing, but to me, he is a blessing. I learnt so much from my son while I was caring for him.” 

Jane’s husband is the only member supporting the family financially. As a driver, his income varies every month. This makes his income inconsistent and does not provide adequate security. To supplement the family’s household income, Jane hopes to secure employment soon as her son’s condition has improved and he is attending school regularly. However, Jane has been finding it challenging to secure a job the past few months. 

The physical and emotional task of caring for her son with special needs can have no end in sight. Yet even in the most demanding and challenging times in her caregiving journey, the devoted mother would always prioritise her children’s well-being over hers.
