Jahidul is a construction worker from Bangladesh who has suffered much injustice. Jahidul has worked for seven months but was only paid three months. The boss had gathered Jahidul and five other workers together to inform them that they were no longer needed. After being denied remuneration for four months, the workers asked to be paid first. The boss got five other goons and threatened them to sign some documents so that they could be sent home to Bangladesh immediately. When Jahidul refused, he was slapped and punched. When the punch landed, he fell unconscious. Now more than two years later, his injured eye is better, but his hearing is still impaired. His MC is now over, but he has yet to see his 43-day MC wages. The punch up is now a police case.
The 29-year-old is still pursuing his salary claims and unpaid MC wages and has been living on assistance from his younger brother to pay for his living expenses for the past two years. Jahidul’s younger brother who is working in Singapore, has been supporting the family and helping Jahidul with his rent and expenses over the past two years. However, he no longer wants to help Jahidul anymore.
Jahidul has been facing immense levels of stress trying to make ends meet both for himself and his family back home in Bangladesh. He has 2 elder parents, a wife, and a sister back home. He is the sole breadwinner of the family.
Jahidul hopes that he can resolve the current dispute as soon as possible so that he can move on to another job. Ray of Hope would like to raise $1,600 ($400 x 4 months) to help Jahidul with his rent and living expenses as he awaits updates from MOM.Â
*Ray of Hope caseworkers have cited medical documents provided by Jahidul. However, they will not be published as he is currently awaiting updates from MOM.Â
