Background
Mdm Ita* is a 38-year-old single mother to two children. Her son is 8 years old and her daughter is 6 years old. The father of her children has cut off all ties and have no contact with them and Mdm Ita is estranged from her family. She informs us that her father was physically abusive towards her when she was growing up and remains abusive till today. She is currently raising 2 young children alone with no support from family members.
The Struggle
Mdm Ita has had a difficult life. Mdm Ita informs us that she left home more than 15 years ago after she could no longer stand the constant physical abuse by her father. She informs us that after leaving home she was homeless for a while staying at West Coast Park. Under the advice of a friend, she moved to Johor as it was cheaper. Due to her primary education, she is only able to work jobs such as a cleaner. During these past 12 years, she stayed in a small room with her children and once every month she would stay overnight at Marsiling Park due to the requirements of the tourist visa.
While staying in Johor, her son commutes daily to Singapore to attend school and was constantly exhausted. Her daughter will be entering primary 1 next year and Mdm Ita decided at the beginning of this year to return back to Singapore in order to give her children a better life and environment.
It was not an easy decision for Mdm Ita. She has no home and no family to turn to in Singapore. With the help of government agencies and social service agencies, she stayed in a shelter for 5 months before finally moving into her own rental unit in September this year. She is also gainfully employed and works hard as a bus washer earning a salary of S$1,200 nett. Even though the job is physically demanding, she works hard to provide a stable life for her 2 young children.
Give Hope – Help Needed
Mdm Ita is slowly rebuilding her life in Singapore with her children. She has moved into her own rental unit however; the house is sparsely furnished. With her salary, she is able to provide for her children, however, she does not have enough to furnish her rental unit.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$1,000 for Mdm Ita to be able to purchase necessary household items for her family. She is working extremely hard to provide for her children and Ray of Hope would like to empower Mdm Ita to be able to purchase her own household items and lead a better life. Please give hope to Mdm Ita and her two young children.
