The Struggle
Mdm Tan, 40 years old, is married with 4 schooling children. She works as a kitchen helper and earns around $1,600 a month, while her husband who works as a delivery driver, brings home around $1,440. Mdm Tan’s children are aged between 21 to 7 years old. Her eldest daughter who has since graduated from polytechnic has started working part-time to lighten the financial burden at home, while her other siblings are studying in Secondary 5, Secondary 3 and Primary 1.
Like most parents, Mdm Tan and her husband work extremely hard in hope of providing the best for their children even in trying times. With their combined income, Mdm Tan’s family does not qualify for most public assistance schemes except for the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) for their children’s school fees. Despite the assistance, Mdm Tan still struggles with some living arrears that has incurred over the years. The family of 7 including Mdm Tan’s elderly father have been residing in a transitional shelter since 2016. With their children growing up day by daily, Mdm Tan and her husband are hoping to be able to provide their family with a conducive and comfortable home to stay in.
Help Needed – Give Hope
They have recently managed to purchase a 3-room resale flat, and are now a step closer to owning their dream home. With the help of their case workers, Mdm Tan has managed to engage a contractor to do some basic renovation for the flat. However, they are unable to afford the basic renovation cost which amounts to S$4,900. Although the family is also saving up towards the renovation cost, they are appealing for your help, as owning a home of their own has always been something that they are working towards all the while.
Financial Breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise $4,900 for Mdm Tan and her family so that they can have a place to call home. Payment will be made directly to the contractor and Mdm Tan’s case workers from the shelter will assist to monitor on the progress of the renovation.
*Mdm Tan is currently not receiving any public assistance.
