The Struggle
Like all mothers who wish to be able to share happy moments with their children, 55-year-old Mdm Ambika had a small dream of being able to live under the same roof with her daughter and enjoy the company of her grand-daughters. Since her divorce, Mdm Ambika and her daughter share a close relationship and were a constant source of comfort for each other. With both her legs being amputated due to various medical conditions, Mdm Ambika is unable to work to support herself financially.
Help Needed – Give Hope
Mdm Ambika’s daughter was previously working as a nurse. With her husband’s income, Mdm Ambika’s daughter was able to support her mother financially and the family was able to manage financially even with the additional cost of hiring a helper. Mdm Ambika’s daughter was forced to resign from her job to take care of her two young children, aged 4 and 1.5 years old after their previous helper was found abusing her children. Mdm Ambika’s son-in-law works as a stall helper, earning $150 a day.
With the family relying on a single daily-paid income, their plans were thrown awry as they are now unable to afford the helper, which is necessary so that Mdm Ambika’s daughter would be able to return to work as soon as possible without having to worry about not having anyone to take care of her mother while she is at work.
Mdm Ambika was previously receiving monthly assistance from the Social Service Office (SSO) prior to her monthly $300 CPF payout. However, since her CPF payout began about four years ago, her SSO assistance was stopped. Her CPF payout was depleted since July 2018, and Mdm Ambika has since submitted her application of assistance with SSO again.
Financial Breakdown
ROHI would like to raise S$1,500 ($$250 x 6 months) to Mdm Ambika’s family so that they can hire a helper to take care of Mdm Ambika and her granddaughters while her daughter gets back to work.
