Faruk first came to work in Singapore in 2006. He worked for 14 years as a general worker at a shipyard before he met with an accident. On 24th October 2020, Faruk fell 13 metres while climbing up to do welding work. As a result of the fall, he cracked his kneecap, and injured his chest, shoulder and back. Faruk was sent to the hospital by the ambulance and was issued four months of medical leave after 10 days in the hospital. However, he was only paid two months of MC wages by his employer. Although Faruk does not require a surgery, he still experiences pain in his shoulder and back.
The 41-year-old breadwinner had remitted the bulk of what he was earning home each month to his family of 8. Faruk’s family consists of his elderly parents, his wife, elder brother, sister-in-law and their three children. Faruk’s elder brother is unable to find employment due to the COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh.
Faruk is worried about the finances at home while he is working towards recovery, by attending regular physiotherapy sessions. He hopes to return to work so that he can continue supporting his family. Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,100 ($700 x 3 months) to support Faruk and his family for the next 3 months as he works towards recovery.Â
