We started the campaign in early April 2020 when the appeals for frozen meals started pouring in from beneficiaries. We have so far raised more than 10,800 meals. We have delivered over 5,000 meals to 10 beneficiaries and the deliveries are on-going and promised throughout May. We select our beneficiaries based on urgency of need for food. So far, we have helped shelters for migrant workers, nursing homes in need, homes for abused children, homes for people with special needs and low-income families and individuals who have lost their livelihoods.
Going forward, all the funds raised will be largely committed to low-income families. During this period of time, many of the people we want to help have lost their part-time and contract positions. Many of these low-income families have young and school-going children. It is increasingly difficult and stressful for the adults in the family to find proper meals to feed their children. At the same time, we expect to see an increase in need for help in this segment of the community. Our current community in Jalan Kukoh is a good example. Each week, this community needs at least 1000 meals to feed 38 such families.
We hope to reach our campaign goal of 24,000 meals. So far, we have raised 10,800 meals, so we would like to raise another 13,200 meals and if there is a need to keep going, post COVID 19, as we see many might go without a job, we will do so, accordingly.
