Update 1 (15 May 2020)
Dear Friends,
As you may already know, our nation builders: Migrant Workers are now facing a painfully difficult time. While organisations like MWC and Project Chulia Street have been working hard on focusing on the larger Purpose Built Dormitories, there are still massive shortage of resources for smaller Factory Converted Dormitories which houses more than 800,000 Migrant Workers.
SDI Academy has successfully completed a fundraiser to distribute welfare care packages (Hygiene Kits including Hand Sanitizers, Masks as well as daily essentials items such as Rice, Oil, noodles, Biscuits etc) to 3800 Migrant workers residing in the 7 identified FCDs thanks to your generous donation.
We are now raising funds to distribute dry food items to the 6,000 isolated migrant workers in Expo and also to meaningfully engage them while they wait to be fully recovered.
- – Puffed Rice 1 Packet
- – Chanachur/Murukku 1 Packet
- – 1 Packet Dry Cake 350gm
- – Instant Noodles Chicken/Curry/Vegetable flavour
- – Milo
- – Dates
- – Tea
$10 per pax x 6000 = $60,000
In addition, almost all of them are now in their dormitories with 12-16 people in their dorms. In the past where they used to be busy with work 10-12 hours a day are now completely free without much things to do. Many of them are also now having to share the room with more people at any point in time due to both night shift and day shift work being cancelled. They are not having anything productive to occupy their time with.
As such, SDI Academy is launching an interactive centralised app (Linger) with customised courses for the Migrant Workers on English Communications skills, Computer Literacy, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Mental Wellbeing and General Knowledge modules to help them upgrade their skills and be empowered during this down time. It also enables locals and migrants to virtually connect and show support for each other.
The development cost for both the app and content as well as variable cost for servers, API integrations and speech recognition costs leads to $15/pax.
$15 per pax x 6000 = $90,000
Thank you very much for your love and blessings.
Please share this campaign so we can reach our target. Thank you.
