Background

Mdm Prama, 53 years old, lives in a cramped and simply furnished two-room rental flat with her husband and two teenage sons. She is permanently unfit for work as she suffers from chronic diabetes and constant swelling on her legs which causes her intense pain. Mdm Prama informs us that on bad days, the swelling can last for as long as 12 hours. Due to her medical condition and constant pain, she is mostly confined to her home. Earlier this year she was also diagnosed with carotid stenosis, which is a blocked artery on the right side of her neck. This condition can eventually lead to stroke, vision loss and paralysis. Mdm Prama has undergone surgery to remove the blocked artery on the 24^th of June 2019 and is currently recuperating.

The Struggle

Mdm Prama is currently struggling to get by. Before her diabetes became chronic, she used to work in various jobs such as a cashier and a hawker. While the jobs did not pay well, Mdm Prama managed to acquire some savings and CPF. Due to being permanently unfit for work, she is currently receiving a monthly CPF pay-out of S$561. Her husband, who is on Long Term Visit Pass, has trouble securing employment and the family of 4 is currently struggling to get by with less than S$600 per month. The family has also amassed arrears with Singapore Power and Singtel.

Give Hope – Help Needed

Ray of Hope would like to raise S$1,500 (S$250 x 6 months) to defray the family’s groceries expenses for 6 months. The money raised will be converted to NTUC vouchers. Mdm Prama worries greatly about putting food on the table and this has been a source of constant worry for her. Please give hope to the resilient mother while she recuperates from her operation and help the family out!
