39-year-old Arumugam was previously working as a general construction worker in Singapore. He came to Singapore in hopes of providing a better life for his family back in India. Back in India, Arumugam is caring for his parents, parents-in-law, sister-in-law, his wife and two young children.

In November 2020, Arumugam suffered from a brain stem stroke and currently requires long-term assistance. He has trouble completing his daily routine such as eating and toileting. In addition, Arumugam’s speech has been affected due to the stroke. Hence, he finds it difficult to communicate his needs and often feels discouraged when he is unable to do so. Despite undergoing treatment and therapy for several months, Arumugam’s medical social worker shared that the chances of him recovering is very low and he requires someone to look after him full-time.

Arumugam’s family in India intends to look after Arumugam themselves as they will not be able to afford institutional care in India. After losing the main provider of the family to a stroke, Arumugam’s family is under immense pressure as they struggle to make ends meet. Ray of Hope is currently working with other NGOs who are looking into helping Arumugam longer term.

With his family relying on him for sustenance, Arumugam is in great distress without a source of income. Ray of Hope would like to raise $10,200 ($850 x 12 months) to support Arumugam and his family for the next 12 months as he works towards recovery.
