You can Give Hope to a struggling single mum
Ray of Hope previously raised $1,500 for Noraisah’s groceries expenses. She was grateful for the donations that have helped defray the expenses at home while she works on seeking employment.
When the case workers met Noraisah recently, she told us that she has started work as a kindergarten teacher since this June, and is currently on a one-year contract with a gross salary of $2000. With her current income exceeding the cap for public assistance, Noraisah does not qualify for most assistance schemes and the family’s finance is always a huge issue to her. With some monetary help from her extended family, Noraisah has managed to engage a helper to take care of her aged mum so that she is able to work. Nonetheless, she is still struggling with the family’s living arrears and her mum’s expenses for adult diapers due to the deterioration of her mobility which is affecting her activities of daily living.
Noraisah, who was divorced since two years ago, is also the caregiver to her two school-going daughters aged 13 and 10. Her 80 year old mum suffered from two strokes in 2009 and in late September 2018. Since then, she has been suffering from frequent giddiness and subsequent checks revealed that she has been suffering from several blood clots in her brain. She also suffers from anaemia, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and is mostly bedridden now. Being the sole breadwinner of the family, Noraisah has been trying her best to juggle the expenses and bills just so that they do not fall back into debts. Unfortunately, her previous employment doing relief teaching also meant that her income was limited by the school holidays when there was no work. As a result, the family has incurred more than $6000 of arrears owing to HDB for their 3-room purchased flat.
Financial Breakdown
Noraisah told us that sometimes, she is on the verge of breaking down as she is extremely helpless about the situation that she is in. The single mum is appealing for a little kindness from you that would give her hope to hang on.
ROHI would like to raise $1,800 ($300 x 6 months) to help Noraisah with the cost of her elderly mum’s diapers and part of the family’s groceries.Â
*Noraisah is currently receiving minimal assistance from MUIS.
