70-year-old cancer patient, also the main caregiver to his special needs son in his wife’s absence
Mr Lim has two children from his current marriage, including a 10-year-old autistic son and a 14-year-old daughter. Mr Lim suffers from cancer and used to work as a part-time taxi driver. However, his license was retracted in November 2019 as he did not pass the eye test given his old age and he has been out of job since then. He currently sustains himself and the family by his monthly CPF payouts and SSO assistance. In view of the current financial state, he is unable to pay for the required amount and not able to bring his wife back. Mr Lim’s wife is an Indonesian and was the full-time caregiver for their two children. She had returned home in March to visit her father who was unwell then. Unfortunately, with the traveling restrictions in place, she is unable to return to Singapore until the restrictions are lifted.
Since his wife’s absence, Mr Lim has been having great difficulties managing his son who is diagnosed with Autism. He struggles with the boy’s tendencies to throw things down, choking the toilet bowl, cutting mats and urinating in the house. Mr Lim tries very hard to cope with these challenges despite his ill health. The 70-year-old is a nasopharyngeal cancer patient and suffers from hearing loss, diabetes and hypertension.
Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,200 to bring Mr Lim’s wife back home as soon as the circuit breaker restrictions for traveling are lifted. Payment will be made for the quarantine facilities ($2,000) and swab test ($200) in order for Mr Lim’s wife to be allowed to be back in Singapore.
*Mr Lim is currently receiving social assistance
