Ray of Hope previously fundraised for Mdm Liang, an isolated elderly living on her own. Since her husband’s passing in 2018, Mdm Liang has been managing things on her own. The elderly has no siblings and is not in contact with her relatives. Mdm Liang suffers from high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a weak kidney which causes protein to pass through when she urinates. Due to her swollen ankles from a fall, she is mostly confined to her room and rarely goes out except for medical appointments.

For more than a decade, the 72-year-old has stayed in the small room of an open market rental flat that she has been renting from. Although Mdm Liang was offered a HDB rental flat, she was reluctant to move out of the current flat.

“I am all alone at 72. I cannot manage things by myself anymore if it wasn’t for my neighbours and friends. They good care of me and I feel so blessed. They are always coming by to make sure I am doing fine.” Mdm Liang told the caseworkers.

The elderly is relying on her CPF payout of less than S$550 per month and the amount is insufficient for her daily needs, including the pain relief cream and health supplements that she has been using to manage the pain.

Ray of Hope would like to raise $3,600 ($300 x 12 months) to help Mdm Liang with defray her expenses for her pain relief cream and health supplements to manage the pain on her ankles.
