He took a wrong turn at 27 and today, he is paying for his actions.

The 27 year old graduated with a diploma and had a bright career laid out ahead of him. But because of family issues and the strained relationship with his Dad, he took to drugs to vent out his frustrations. Looking back now, Deva, told us that he is deeply remorseful for his actions and that it was clearly a wrong choice that he has made. Nonetheless, the 27 year old is still thankful because he was “caught before it had become a full blown habit”.

Speaking to Deva, we soon discovered a positive young adult behind his strong frame. Deva was open to share about his regrets, dreams and hopes for the future. Since he was young, Deva had always been closer to his mum. But his parents’ divorce shocked him and threw his life into chaos. Deva was forced to live with his dad then and couldn’t comprehend how his mum could just “abandon him”. The father and son quarrelled a lot during this period of time, and Deva took to taking drugs to make his life more bearable.

During the period of time while he was in prison, Deva told us that he has done a lot of thinking, both about life and about improving his relationship with his dad. He told us he was determined to start afresh. Thankfully during this period of time, his relationship with his dad has also improved tremendously. Moving forward, Deva hopes to take over his dad’s handyman business. Though it is tough work and just a small store, Deva hopes to lighten his dad’s burden and start anew in his life.
