Swapan, aged 37, was employed as a general worker in the shipyard industry earning around $1,500 per month. He came to Singapore in 2010 after paying an agent fee of $2,000 in hopes of a better quality of life for his family in Bangladesh. He worked for seven days a week, for 8 to 10 hours a day. The long hours of hard work allowed Swapan to remit back around $1,200 for his family’s living expenses. However, the sole breadwinner had to stop working after he met with a workplace related accident on the 1st of May 2018.

While Swapan was working on site, he tripped on a platform on the ground and fell forward. The fall injured his shoulder, leg and back. He was then bought to the hospital where he received an x-ray and MRI. In addition, he received 98 days of MC for him to recover. However, his employer has yet to pay him his MC wages. Swapan also claims that his employer has bought insurance for him but no compensation money was given as well. Since the accident, Swapan has been unemployed. Hence, he is unable to send any money home to his family.

Ray of Hope would like to support Swapan and his family by raising $2,700 to help with their living expenses for 3 months ($900 x 3 months).
