Barely enough to survive: Mr. Tan’s story

Mr Tan, aged 67, lives with his wife and two adult children. His relationship with the family is estranged and they are not on talking terms despite living under the same roof. In 2006, Mr Tan was diagnosed with Myastehnia Gravis – a neuromuscular autoimmune disease that affects his breathing, arms and legs. He is unfit for employment and tries his best to spend minimally to save money for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment on his tight muscles.

After the funds from his CPF withdrawal were exhausted in 2019, Mr Tan’s children have been supporting him with $200 monthly. He has tried to seek financial assistance from the government, but the application was rejected due to the family’s combined income. Mr Tan is currently surviving on the $200 per month and has trouble meeting his basic needs.

On top of his financial difficulties, Mr Tan is faced with crippling loneliness as he does not have much family support.

Ray of Hope started a campaign to raise $1,800 for Mr Tan.

How will the funds be utilised?

Ray of Hope will perform a detailed needs analysis to determine how the money each beneficiary will receive. Generally speaking, the donations are used for short term financial assistance, daily needs, paying off utilities or town council bills, etc.

100% of the donations will be disbursed to the beneficiaries. Ray of Hope does not take any portion of the donation for our overheads. All beneficiaries have been verified with documentation and relevant checks with government authorities, so you know that your donation is going to the right person.
