Ruman is a 41-year-old construction worker from Bangladesh. Back home, he has to care for his elderly parents, wife, and 4-year-old son. He came to Singapore in June 2019 in hopes of earning a better income to support his family.
However, Ruman’s hopes of supporting his family went downhill in September. While he was passing materials to another worker on the 3rd level at his workplace one day, the platform that he was standing on broke and he fell to the ground from the 2nd level. He was sent to the clinic with neck, shoulder, and lower back injuries. The doctor then issued him with one day of MC. The following day, Ruman was still in excruciating pain. Hence, he went to the hospital for consultation and treatment where he had to pay for his own MRI scan. Till this day, he still experiences lower back pains.
Ruman’s situation worsened when Covid-19 hit Singapore as his company had to close down. The company still owed him $1,000 of his salary and about $3,000 of his MC wages. He was stranded with no financial support for food and his medical treatment. On top of that, he has to pay for his room rental. Thus, he had to borrow money from friends to support himself and his family.
Ruman’s elderly parents, wife and 4-year-old son depend on him for support. However, he has been unable to to send any remittances home since his injury.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$2,400 for Ruman’s living expenses and to help defray his family’s expenses in Bangladesh for four months (S$600 x 4 months) while he recovers. Please give hope to Ruman and his family!
