Zaman is a 31-year-old General Construction Worker from Bangladesh and is currently taking care of his whole family which includes his ill parents, a younger sister who is awaiting college, wife and 3-year-old son. He is the sole breadwinner of his family.
On 5th March 2020, Zaman met with a work-related accident where he fell two meters to the ground and a hose pumping cement hit him in the arm and chest. This resulted in him injuring his arm, neck, and back. Initially, Zaman was taken to a clinic and was issued a memo to continue working on duties with a light workload only. However, the pain persisted and he was brought to the hospital by a friend. He was subsequently given six months of unpaid medical leave till November 2020 by the hospital as he was certified unfit to work. In addition, he has to attend physiotherapy twice a week for his recovery. Zaman has yet to complete his MRI and X-ray due to his employer delaying the process.
Zaman has not been able to send any remittances home since the accident and still has outstanding debts to pay for. This has caused disputes between him and his wife back home in Bangladesh. His father who was struck by a stroke twice and his mother who suffers from kidney stones has also increased his stress level. Ray of Hope aims to raise $3,700 to help Zaman and his family with his rent arrears ($500) and four months of living expenses ($800 x 4 months).
