The Struggle

3-year-old Angel* and Beth* are a lovely pair of twins born prematurely at 24 weeks, diagnosed with moderate-severe Global Developmental Delay (GDD) at birth. Their mum, Joy* who works as a part-time waitress is their main caregiver while their father, Andy* works full-time in order to support his family.

Angel and Beth had a stormy neonatal course, suffering from respiratory distress syndrome, chronic lung disease, septic shock from ESBL E Coli septicaemia, Intraventricular haemorrhage, along with other medical conditions. Joy was told by ICA that her PR status would only be granted after the birth of her children. As such, the couple would pay off the hospitalization bills before trying to conceive again. To cope with the expenses, the family has been pawning jewellery in exchange for cash. The twins were born after three attempts of miscarriages in a time span of 6 years. Joy had a difficult pregnancy with the twins who were born prematurely. During the process, the family accumulated hefty hospitalization debts totalling to S$14,800 due to the mother’s foreigner status then.

Help Needed – Give Hope

Although Andy is gainfully employed, finances are tight due to the doubled expenses arising from raising the twins, coupled with the additional expenses incurred due to their special needs. The current bulk of the family’s expenses goes towards the household’s health and education insurances ($700/month), the twin’s medical consumables which are not covered by Medisave ($500/month) and their various debt repayment ($900/month) on top of their household bills ($600/month), groceries ($300/month), the twin’s diapers and milk powder ($430/month) and school expenses ($214/month). The couple is worried about the family’s finances moving forward.

Financial Breakdown

ROHI would like to help Andy and his family with the hefty medical bill of $14,800 as they work their way towards fully repaying their debts. All payments will be made directly to the hospital.
