27-year-old Bipul was employed as a fitter since 2014. He first arrived in Singapore on 24th June 2014 and had paid $10,000 agent’s fees to come here for work. On 27th February 2019, Bipul was cutting the metal frame of a window with a Makita tool when he lost control of it. It cut his left thumb, and the pain caused him to fall from the ladder he was standing on. He fell 1.5 meters, injuring his neck and back. When he fell backward, his head struck the floor so hard, and it affected his vision. He didn’t bring this up during his initial visit to the doctor, so his poor vision did not qualify for compensation.

Bipul was on MC for four months, but this has not been paid to him.

Bipul isn’t married, but was supporting his elderly parents and college-going younger brother with the $800 salary that he was paid here. Bipul told us that he hopes to have a family of his own one day, but still hopes to be able to support his parents and continue putting his younger brother through college.

Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,700 ($900 x 3 months) for Bipul and his family as he awaits closure to his compensation claim.
