Single mum with 4 children loses employment due to Covid-19
“I was working as a packer before I lost my job after the company decided to cut down on the staff. I am so worried about having no food or milk and diapers. We need money for everything”, says Myra, a single mum to her 4 children.
The single mum was earning a nett income of $450 relying on her social assistance prior to losing her employment. Myra’s children are 8, 6, 5 & 2 and the family of 5 is staying in their 2-room rental flat. According to Myra, it was not by choice that she could only work-time as her eldest daughter’s school ends at 1pm but she could not be accepted into the childcare as the enrolment was full. The rest of her children are attending school including childcare.
Although her divorce was finalized in March, Myra has not received the maintenance for her children from March onwards from her ex-husband. Life after losing her employment and with only one out of six siblings occasionally helping Myra with ad-hoc food rations, Myra told us how helpless she feels about her current situation especially when two of them in the family suffer from medical conditions. Myra suffers from conditions such as shortness of breath and low blood pressure while her eldest daughter is on regular follow-up for recurrent Henoch-Schoulein purpura and kidney issues.
Financial Breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise $3,000 ($1,000 x 3 months) to support Myra and her children while they renew their public assistance. Please donate to give hope to the resilient mum who is continuing to seek employment so that she can support her children.
*Myra’s social assistance ended in March 2020 and is currently being renewed.
