Their struggle after the circuit breaker kicked in
Mdm Ekin and her husband, Mr Puteri were working to support their family of 5. Mdm Ekin held a part-time cleaning job earning an income of $600 while her husband worked in a car washing company, bringing home $1190 a month. Unfortunately, both had to stop work due to the circuit breaker that came into place, leaving their family without any source of income. Mdm Ekin has three school-going children from her previous marriage, 13, 8 & 7. However, with an irregular maintenance payout for her children, Mdm Ekin and Mr Puteri are worried about putting food on the table for their family.
Mdm Ekin’s family was not receiving any government assistance payout, but has since applied and the processing time is likely to take between 4 to 6 weeks. Currently, the family is only relying on their depleting savings, some weekly rations and a $40 NTUC vouchers that they are receiving from their RC.
