Since 2019, Mr Abdullah has been working multiple shifts everyday as a food delivery rider to make ends meet for his family. His wife was previously employed as a kitchen assistant but was retrenched recently as the kitchen had to close down. The family is now solely reliant on Mr Abdullah’s income to get by each day. Due to the loss of income during those months, the family had to be very frugal with their expenditures and incurred a few debts since.
Three of Mr Abdullah’s children are still attending school, his oldest is in ITE while his youngest is in primary school. Mr Abdullah shared that he has been very worried about not being able to support the needs of his children due to the high cost of living now.Â
Mr Abdullah hopes to secure full time employment soon but is having difficulty securing one. He shared that his job now does not provide a steady stream of income as it is dependent on how many orders he receives. With a full time employment, he hopes to earn a stable income every month. Despite all of these difficulties, he still aims to be the pillar of support to his family.
*Mr Abdullah has applied for financial assistance from SSO but his application is still pending.Â
