Ray of Hope is raising $1,800 ($150 x 12 months) to cover the expenses for Mdm Sukinah’s meals, for a year.
70-year-old Mdm Sukinah lives in a 1-room rental flat. Her husband passed away years ago and she has been living with her 16 year-old grand-daughter ever since. Mdm Sukinah’s only son struggles to support the family and is unable to help her. He works as a food delivery rider and earns just over $1,000 a month. His wife works as a food stall assistant in a school canteen. They are supporting 4 children, between the ages of 5 and 18, on a combined income of less than $2,000 a month.
In 2015, Mdm Sukinah was diagnosed with kidney failure and requires dialysis thrice a week. She also suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, and relies on a motorised wheelchair to get around.
Permanently unfit for work, Mdm Sukinah relies on quarterly payouts of $900 from the Silver Support Scheme to cover her living expenses. She is currently not receiving any social assistance, apart from the subsidies for her dialysis sessions.
