Ray of Hope is raising $13,570 to help Mdm Ngoh with her home renovation cost for her family to have a conducive living environment. Payment will be made directly to the contractor.
Mdm Ngoh has two children, aged 26 and 18. Her 18 year-old will complete his National Service in October 2022. Mdm Ngoh is estranged from her 26 year-old daughter, who is married with two young children from her current marriage. She has a 10 year-old son from her first marriage who is under Mdm Ngoh’s care.
Mdm Ngoh was making frequent travels to assist her daughter in caregiving, which took a toll on her health. The toes on her right foot became swollen and gangrenous. Mdm Ngoh ran a high fever and was in extreme pain and her right leg was amputated below the shin. Since then, Mdm Ngoh has used a prosthetic leg to move around. She also suffers from Major Depressive Disorder and chronic diabetes, and has been certified unfit for employment.
Mdm Ngoh’s husband worked as a taxi driver and was the family’s main provider. He stopped working in March 2021, to care for Mdm Ngoh after her amputation. He does ad-hoc food deliveries and repairs bicycles on the weekends, which does not bring in regular income for the family. As a full-time caregiver, it is challenging for him to find a job.
The family recently got the keys to their new 3-room flat. There are some safety concerns because of the uneven flooring, which puts Mdm Ngoh at risk of falling, especially when she uses her wheelchair or her prosthetic leg. The proposed renovations will ensure that Mdm Ngoh’s safety is safeguarded.
The cost of $13,570 will cover renovation works for the following:
- Living room
- 2 bedrooms
- Kitchen
- Haulage Works
- Flooring Works
- Miscellaneous Works
The flat has been fully paid for by the sale of their current flat, but needs some renovation before the family can move in.
As the family is required to vacate the current flat by 15 August, Mdm Ngoh has turned to crowdfunding in the hope of raising funds to undertake essential renovations and enable her family to finally have a safe home of their own.
*Mdm Ngoh is receiving social assistance.
