Rabidash, 37, is a Bangladeshi migrant worker. He is the sole provider for his parents, wife and 7-year-old son. He took up a $8,500 bank loan to pay for the agent fees to work in Singapore. After almost two years of working, Rabidash met with a workplace related accident. While hammering a pipe during a leakage, he accidentally hit his index finger with the hammer. With the loss of income, Rabidash is worried as he is no longer able to support his family till he recovers.
Ray of Hope is raising $2,200 ($550 x 4 months) to support Rabidash and his family while he waits for MOM’s investigation to conclude.
On 14 November 2021, Rabidash was tasked to hammer some pipes due to a leakage at work. Due to the leakage, he was unable to see accurately and accidentally hit his index finger with the hammer. Rabidash was immediately brought to the hospital to receive further treatment. Subsequently, he had to undergo surgery to insert a metal rod in his finger. Since the surgery, he has not been able to bend his finger. Â
Rabidash was earning an average monthly salary of $780 prior to the accident. He would remit most of that sum to his family as his mother suffers from kidney failure and has to attend dialysis sessions frequently. In Bangladesh, he is supporting his two elderly parents, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Since the accident, he has been borrowing money from friends and relatives to support the family financially.
Rabidash still suffers pain in his finger and is eager to recover so that he can resume working to support his family. In the meantime, he is in great distress as he has not been able to send money to his family.
