Many of us have been blessed to live a comfortable life – but as we know, not everyone has had the same privilege. Many low-income families go through each day without enough money to pay for adequate food and other necessities such as household or medical bills, their children’s milk or diapers and other expenses we often take for granted. 

As the Chairman of Ray of Hope (RoH), I am privy to such realities and feel compelled to do my part for these families. And what better way to celebrate my 50th Birthday than to start a campaign to raise funds for RoH, an organisation that gives families in difficult situations a leg up? 

Cycling for Hope aims to raise $100,000 by November 30, 2022 for Ray of Hope to support its fantastic work. Together with RoH’s General Manager, Tan En, we will cycle 5000km each to reach a combined distance of 10,000km to raise the sum. We will also be cycling with and for the community! En and I will be delivering groceries and essential items to the families, and at certain junctures of our journey, beneficiaries can decide to join us too.

From 30th March (my birthday) to the 30th November, En and I will have to cover a distance of 150km a week (8 hours of cycling a week). For casual cycling enthusiasts like ourselves, this is no easy feat. But we are determined to complete this challenge if it means more individuals and families will benefit from it.

Over the last decade, Ray of Hope has taken an honest look at the challenges of the community. They are constantly finding ways to journey with their clients until they find their footing again. They have worked tirelessly to support families through financial means, case management and verification and community outreach programs. However, upholding these intentions requires a great deal of financial support. The funds raised will go towards Ray of Hope’s community outreach and casework programme. This work is resource-intensive and requires attention to detail and dedication from their case managers and the organisation as a whole.
