Zhao Hui came to Singapore in 2004 in hopes of providing a better life for his family in China as a carpenter. For almost two decades, he has been working tirelessly to support his wife, two children and elderly mother. However, things took a turn for the worse when Zhao Hui was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and End Stage Renal Failure earlier this year.
Ray of Hope is raising $4,000 to support Zhao Hui and his family for the next 4 months ($1,000 x 4 months). This will help his family with his medical treatment and living expenses in China as he works towards recovery.
Zhao Hui is from China and is married with two children, aged 22 and 17. His wife now works as a cleaner earning $600. His oldest daughter recently graduated from school and is seeking employment while his youngest son is still studying.
Before coming to Singapore, Zhao Hui had to pay $12,000 for the agent’s fees using his savings in hopes of better job prospects here. Since then, he has been working as a carpenter earning $2,500 monthly. Every two months, Zhao Hui would remit the bulk of his salary to support his family’s living expenses and children’s education.
On the 8th of January, Zhao Hui felt extremely sick and breathless. After rushing to the hospital, he was subsequently diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and End Stage Renal Failure on 12 January 2022. Both of his kidneys were functioning at only 10% and his doctor has advised him to undergo kidney transplantation. However, due to the high cost of treatment, Zhao Hui rejected the offer. He now goes through kidney dialysis twice a week.
With no income to support his medical treatment and his family, Zhao Hui is under immense stress as the family has lost their main source of income. The resilient father intends to seek treatment back in China as he will not be able to afford institutional care in Singapore.
