Ever since her adoptive mother passed on in 2013, Anne has tried multiple times to apply for Singaporean citizenship, but has not been successful.
Anne’s husband works as a chef and earns $2,200 a month. On that income, the couple provides for their 3 year-old child and Anne’s two older children (10 and 15) from her previous relationship. Unfortunately, Anne’s 10-year-old is also classified as stateless, because he was born out of wedlock.
Over the years, the couple has struggled very hard to support their son’s education. Due to his status as a stateless person, he is not eligible for education and medical subsidies. To date, the family has incurred over $13,000 in arrears, $9,573 of which was for primary school fees.
Anne would like to find a job to lighten her husband’s financial burden, but is hindered by health issues and caregiving duties. Anne has been diagnosed with depression, schizophrenia and anxiety issues. Recently, their 3 year-old was also provisionally diagnosed with autism.
