With his family totally relying on his income, Mollik is in great distress as he cannot work. Ray of Hope is raising S$1,800 (S$450 x 4 months) to help with his family’s living expenses in these interim period. 

Mollik, 27, is a Bangladeshi migrant worker. He is the eldest son and sole provider for his parents, wife and 3 younger siblings. He first came to Singapore in August 2017, worked in construction for a year, then returned to Bangladesh. In October 2018, he paid $6,000 in agent fees and returned to Singapore. Mollik had been working for 2 years and 3 months as a welder, when a workplace accident totally changed his life.

The Accident

On 28th January 2021, while Mollik was welding, a foreign object hit and pierced his right eye. He was wearing a pair of damaged safety goggles at the time, hence there was little actual protection for his eye. A Letter of Guarantee (LOG) was not issued to him previously and there was a delay of three painful months before Mollik finally underwent surgery to have the foreign object removed on 20th April.

Mollik’s vision in his right is now permanently affected. Prior to the accident, his salary was $900 (with overtime) per month, of which $700 was remitted to his family. Mollick has been on medical leave until 25th November 2021, without any MC wages paid to him. His case with the Ministry of Manpower is pending. In the meantime, Mollik is in great distress as he has not been able to remit funds home throughout these months.
